The Reason

My Step-mom and I are both big travellers. The more remote, off the wall and random, the better. So when two very good friends of mine found themselves headed to Mongolia for work, Terri and I saw it as a perfect opportunity to visit a country that we both have always wanted to see. This blog is going to serve as a virtual trip planner for the two of us and then morph into a travel blog once we are actually, uhhh traveling, which looks to be sometime in July.

Ticket Troubles

Terri and I have been in a ticket holding pattern since our vacation requests were approved. If you ever find yourself trying to book a ticket to Mongolia via Russia, expect a hurdle or two. Here are just a few we faced:

  1. Kayak is GREAT for domestic flights, but can't automatically check and link you to airlines quoted price for more obscure airlines/flights
  2. Aeroflot (which sounds way to much like AeroFLAT for my flight phobia self) charges double when you try and book your Russia and Mongolia tickets together. This makes me a bit nervous about booking them separate will we actually get on both planes?
  3. There is a general anxiety about using you Step-mom's credit card for such a big ticket item, I keep having these bad dreams that all the prices I have been quoting are only one way, in a different currency, only good for seats OUTSIDE the plane, etc....
  4. No one will let us book without out passport numbers already on hand. I understand that countries will need them before we leave, but you'd think that they would be comfortable taking our money at any time....

Regardless, Terri and I have a booking date tomorrow and (hopefully) tickets will become a reality.
